KELLOGG’S DONATES £450 TO OUR YOUNG INSPIRATIONS BREAKFAST CLUB PROJECT
Young Inspirations received a boost today after food company Kellogg’s awarded a grant worth £450 to help fund the charity’s breakfast club.
Young Inspirations is one of 600 schools and charities from across the country to receive a grant after research revealed that more children than ever are going to school hungry.
Money troubles and a lack of interest from parents are forcing more and more children to literally fend for themselves in the morning leading to many sitting at their desks with empty tummies, according to a report by Kellogg’s.
Four out of five (79%) of the teachers surveyed said children are hungry in morning lessons and more than half (54%) revealed this had risen over the last year as the recession, unemployment and benefit cuts take hold.
Breakfast clubs are widely regarded as a cost-effective way to tackle child hunger in the morning. However, recent reports reveal that 40% of breakfast clubs have closed across England in the last year.
Kellogg’s launched the Help give a child a breakfast campaign last October to help bridge the funding gap for schools and charities as research showed the detrimental impact the closure of breakfast clubs could have according to teaching professionals across the UK.
Dal Luggah said: “Breakfast clubs are a lifeline for many children whose parents have to work or study full-time, we try to give the children the best start we can every morning.”
“The grant will really help our club and we’ll look forward to spending the money on providing a healthy breakfast for the children who are not getting it at home as well as buying some new crockery and cutlery and a selection of the children’s favourite cereals.”
Kellogg’s is donating £300,000 in total through the campaign which will provide one million breakfasts for the children that need it most in the UK and Ireland.
