Mayespark Primary School donates to The Welcome Centre

 Youngsters from Mayespark Primary School, Goodmayes Lane, Goodmayes, gave to The Welcome Centre, Green Lane, Ilford, which offers practical support, meals, clothing and other services to the homeless.

The school has been offering donations to the centre on a yearly basis and this year – within a matter of weeks – pupils brought in food to the value of about £1,000, according to teacher Clair Igbe

She said: “Bags full of shopping and toiletries from pupils were stocked up in the school and ready to be transported.”

Pupils at the school were given an talk on homelessness at The Welcome Centre by manager Sonia Lynch, who wanted to raise awareness and explain why people become homeless.

Ms Igbe said Ms Lynch was ”amazed” at the knowledge the school children had when it came to identifying those who may be homeless.
