Success Story: Valdemars Ziverts

Valdemars came to the Welcome Project in September 2011. He had held down a fairly secure job and was renting accomodation but as a result of losing all his documents was unable to prove his continuing right to live and work in the U.K. and lost his job. This was closely followed by the loss of his accomodation so when he came to us he was homeless, jobless, was unable to speak much English and could not access benefits.
Our support workers managed to arrange new documentation for him, got him access to benefits and secured him a rented room.
In the meantime Valdemars was working very hard in our Back to Work & Life Skills Programme as well as attending regular sessions of Enlgish Classes. He also attended two IT courses and received Certificates for both. However Valdemars desired a job as a Fork Lift Driver, which had been his employment in Latvia.
We helped him to access a Fork Lift Driver's Course at North London College so that he would be 'work proficient' in English. Valdemars completed and passed his course in September 2012 and has a number of job offers waiting for him.

My life has taken a complete transformation over these past 3 months.
