Preparation for Employment

At Prospects one of our main aims is to help clients with their confidence and get them back into to work. As well as one-to-one support we also hold the following classes:

IT Classes

IT-1b

Computer skills have become a necessity in the workplace, be it with inputting data, writing letters or communicating online. Outside of work, IT skills have become an important way of communicating with friends and family, and finding employment.
In our fully equipped, internet ready IT suite we teach our clients how to use the computer, using packages like Word and Excel through to setting up an email address, searching for jobs and connecting with friends and family through social media.
Our course can be accredited through The Redbridge Institute of Adult Education (RIAE) at Level Entry 3.  Classes are held every Friday at 1pm to 3pm.

Comments:
“The classes helped me develop an email for job search ”
“I feel more confident using the internet and now I can stay in touch with friends that haven’t
seen in a long time”

Maths and English

Improving your reading, writing and maths skills can lead to a better job or act as a good foundation to further study. Our small classes provide participants with a place to learn and build confidence in their maths and English.  Classes are held every Thursday between 12.30pm to 2.30pm

Comments:
‘I was a bit shy in the beginning that in my age I was not able to do simple maths.
Now I don’t mind it any more I have the chance to learn and I will do it’
“I feel that my memory is constantly improving and now can understand the
things that I am being taught”

Employment Preparation

If you want to return to employment or explore new career options we can help you through one-to-one meetings or group sessions. We have professional knowledge and expertise on developing CVs, assisting you how to look and apply for jobs and improve your interviewing skills. Through our partnerships with local employers and organisations we are able to support clients into volunteering and work placements.

A Poem by Victor

OUT OF THE DARKNESS COMES LIGHT

These tears unceasingly they flow,
As from a waterfall those beauty it does not bestow
Upon a vacuous space below

These barbed droplets of water emanating from my eyes,
A sacrificial lamb resembling an addiction I despise.
Each one bearing witness to pleasures sought,
Each tear falling upon a cheek.
A sign rich emblazoned with the havoc wrought,
Leaving a spirit so desolate and meek.

A menu of sadness my eyes do shed,
Each meal consumed, piercing a heart which has bled.
From eyes illustrative of watery tomb,
Did my addiction, as a stalking predator,
Me, ravenously consume.

My tears a battleground of a war fought,
Like men before me, during lonely and distraught.
Their bodies and limbs upon this bloodied field are shrewd.
They cannot cry as I, for to life’s trials they are immune.
Dark images these tears provoke
Why the lure of addiction I did not revoke?

My tears have dried, the guns have fallen silent.
My fears they do subside
Why to this deposit tyrant was I so compliant?

A sweet soothing voice responds to me
One seemingly of stringed-instruments creating a symphony
Implanting the seed of resurrected piety.
If I pay need to this donated gift, so newly found,
then in rich, green fertile pastures, my liberation shall about.

Activities

As part of the recovery process, we like to encourage our clients to take part in activities and learn new skills. At present we are running the following classes:

Cookery & Nutrition

dine

Our cookery classes are designed for pupils to expand their knowledge and experience in the kitchen. Professional chef and teacher, Ian Samuels (www.comedinewithyou.com) is on hand to run through practical advice and information on nutrition and budgeting. This class also gives an insight into professional cooking, for those thinking about pursuing a career in this area.

GARDENING

Last year (2013) we managed to bring back to life an allotment that was neglected for years. With generous donations of seeds and tools and the guidance of the class’s facilitator, the participants got experience on the process of growing food and flowers and organising a garden. The allotment never looked better and the previously neglected space was transformed into a healthy and productive garden.

The project will be continuing in March 2014 with new energy and ideas.

Check out below some of the crops we grew last year and click here to read about the transformation of the allotment with the Facilitator, Judi Samuels.
